Networked technologies are now an integral part of modern society, providing an essential resource for business and a valuable facility for individuals. Nonetheless, the networking field has far from reached the limits of its potential, with a continuing evolution of both the technologies and their related applications. In addition, many issues remain to be solved, with constant demands for new services, improved performance, and better protection. As a consequence, the ongoing research activities in both the academic and industrial sectors are still making a vital contribution to the domain.
