Pulga is the Portuguese word for Òflea,Ó insect from the order of Siphonaptera. Fleas are parasites that lost their wings during their evolution, with mouthparts adapted for sucking the blood of mammals and birds. They have long legs, well adapted for jumping: a flea can jump vertically up to two hundred times its body length.1
I adopted the name Pulga for the publications I have been producing since 2009 in fanzine format. I chose to reference the flea because of its small dimensions; it could easily fit in a bag, inside a book, or in the back pocket of a pair of pants. The flea is a great jumper, moving easily from one host to another. Similarly, I disseminate ideas through my publications produced in stages, circulating them through informal channels. After distribution, the cycle is not necessarily completed: viewers might pass them on to other readers who are interested in the topic or images in the issue.
