The cute kids and funny animals were the true mainstay of comics for decades. Sure, we remember that superheroes and their names Ð even their villains Ð but more dimes were dropped for characters like FATTY McPIG and CAPTAIN CATFISH than any of those hero guys! PUNCH AND JUDY COMICS (1944 Ð 1951, HILLMAN) shot out of the gate with high-level hilarity, and maintained that quality right to the end, and while maybe names like Orestes Calpini don't get talked about at your recent comic convention, they made comics what they were, and what they are!
