Kenney's Tavern in Iowa City, Iowa, is the bar most mentioned in fiction of any in the United States. It was a primary watering hole and sometimes classroom for the world famous Iowa Writers Workshop which saw poets and writers such as Karl Shapiro, John Crowe Ransom, Flannery O'Connor, John Berryman, Phillip Roth and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. pass through its doors. This story begins with the shooting of the tavern owner's wife on April 13, 1956.
