Students at HTMCV sought to understand WWII by taking an in-depth look into the lives of one person who showed resilience, resistance and moral courage. Students created word portraits of their chosen individual and wrote short stories that highlighted a unique moment in the person's life during WWII. When looking at WWII and the Holocaust, people often ask ÒWhy?Ó Why did the Holocaust happen? Why did the Nazis torture and kill millions of civilians? Why were the Nazis allowed to take control over Germany and most of Western Europe? Why did the Japanese military bomb Pearl Harbor? Why did countries let the atrocities of WWII happen? In WWII, Paul Garber created a kite that became an influential tool in training gunners to shoot down enemy war planes. Why kites? Why were kites critical to resisting Nazi and Imperial Japanese control? These stories and this project sought answers to our team's questions about WWII.
