I have created a variety of wild and turbulent geography in my work with a sense
of a personal place in a mythic space. The Wild West and the American Civil
War are often gateways into my journey as an artist. But, they may morph with
a hidden corner of DraculaÕs castle or in a swaying hammock on board of the
Pequod whaling ship, or on the Titanic or even the ironclad Monitor or Merrimack
ships. If I lived in another universe I would rather have had parents who were more
closely like Annie Oakley, Mary Shelley, Mabel Stark, Mark Twain, Franz Kafka
and Robinson Crusoe than my own biological ones. I am living under the many
constellations that I am still following.
