This book is written to help teachers explain the process of the refocus mats to their young students. This is an attempt at moving away from the traditional Òtime outÓ where the child is simply required to sit and wait. The traditional Òtime outÓ fails to make the learning truly happen for the child and takes away the opportunity for the brain to connect a replacement behavior or solution with the situation.
This book is a part of the Effective School Discipline program which is a pre-K-12 school wide system that moves schools away from the ÒobedienceÓ model to a system built on students taking ownership and responsibility for their behaviors. As schools become more purposeful in creating systems for students, we know discipline/behavior must have a consistent system as well. Effective School Discipline helps administrators and teachers create a system that is realistic to implement and sustain.
