Remembering home and school, as well as the interspaces between, this book explores my phenomenological account of my childhood experiences of learning. By engaging with my past experiences and by telling my story, I aim to uncover the meanings and essences that have become written upon them both then and now. I explore the manner in which my experience was shaped by various forms of power and knowledge in the different spaces of my life, as well as how my life has in turn become filled with meaning and an understanding of conformity and acceptance. I question the link between my experience of socially embedded power and domination and the reality of the lived experience of disability and difference, with hope that my experience with social injustices will provide an opportunity for shared understanding and emancipation. By remembering and telling, I attempt to bring to light the seemingly mundane and insignificant as a step towards emancipation.
