Artists have been fascinated by codes throughout history; pictograms and hieroglyphics point to early forms of codes
artists have used to transcribe information from one mode of communication to another. The nine artists invited to participate in the show fold in both antiquated and highly technical coding systems and materials to explore ideas about secrecy, privacy,
authenticity, identity, memory and loss, as well as the interplay between the physical and virtual world. Works are diverse in
concept and aesthetic, ranging from digital prints, sculpture and painting to web based video projection.
The show was made possible through a unique collaboration between The Arts Council of Greater New Haven and Haskins Laboratories, Yale University. The exhibition aims to present artworks that intersect with Haskins research topics, exploring ways that artists draw inspiration from scientific information and scientists draw inspiration from creative forms of expression.
