In the small western Pennsylvania town of Hiccup Junction, a simple country life is interrupted by the schemes of the devious Vincent and Veronica Blackburn. In an attempt to fool the honest mayor Colonel Major, Vincent creates a fake company and pretends to invest in the town with the plans to sell shares and buy up large amounts of land. Only Vincent and Veronica plan to run away with the deeds and money before anyone wises up to their plot. Standing in their way is the noble hardware store clerk Henry Wright and the virtuous schoolteacher Truly Bright. The villains must adapt as an old flame gets wind of Vincent and attempts to uncover the truth. Dodging blows and escaping the sheriff, Vincent and Veronica must make it out of town with their money and their lives. The town drunk, the gossiping wife of the mayor, and the simple folk of Hiccup Junction must ban together to stop their town from ruin.
