This book is an English commentary on a prayer known as the
ÔSalok Mahall_ Nouv_nÕ which are the stanz_s by the ninth
Gur_, Sr_ Gur_ Tegh Bah_dur J_. This prayer is read at the
completion of the Akh_nd P_th or the closing of prayers from
the Sr_ Gur_ Granth S_hib J_. This prayer is used to invoke a
sentiment of dispassion within both the reader and the listener
to detach from this world and focus upon the name of God. It is
the most read prayer by Sr_ Gur_ Tegh Bah_dur J_ and both has
a historical and spiritual significance.
There are numerous commentaries that can be found within
Sikh literature on this text but the one that impacted on me the
most was a lecture by Sant Har_ Singh (Randh_we W_le). This
commentary took place on the 22nd of April 2012 at Gurdw_r_
Singh Sabh_ Malton, Canada. This commentary was
dispassionate and at the same time provided evidence from the
historical texts to show the importance in the passing of the
Gur_ship from the ninth to the tenth Gur_.
