Jerry F. Schimmel (1933-2021) was well-known as a numismatic writer and a collector of tokens and exonumia. He was a member of the Pacific Coast Numismatic Society for over fifty years, and contributed hundreds of articles to various numismatic and general interest publications. His articles usually focused on San Francisco history as represented by tokens from bars and other entertainment establishments, particularly on the notorious Barbary Coast.
