This music was commissioned by Alison Teale, principal Cor Anglais of the BBC Symphony orchestra and professor of Cor and oboe at the Guildhall in London. It is descriptive in nature and tells the story of an abandoned sunflower in a dark corner of a field. In the opening Sarabande it sings of its fate, but in the following Allegro the flight and arrival of the bee is described and all ends happily. This piece I would describe as difficult but rewarding to play as it is melodic and fun all at the same time.
