A violin and a piano begin their conversation with a meditative recitativo: the beginning of a theatrical play. Then the solo violin. A new situation follows, involving the two instruments, reaching a more dramatic climax. At the end, the violin meets the piano under a new light. Like two friends, they are now singing fragments of a melody freely taken from a Madrigal by Gesualdo Da Venosa, ÒDolcissima mia vita,/... / ...che brama il mio desire/ O dÕamarti o morire. (My sweetest life,/.../ ... whatÕs my desire longing/ to love you or to die).
