Albert, born just after world war two in the slums of Salford, was a bright kid who dreamed of adventure from a very early age.

After two years in Grammar school he managed to get himself expelled.
This is the story of how he survived those early years and followed his dream of seeing the world by joining the merchant navy.
There he found a world of drunkenness, violence, prostitution, homosexuality and crime as he travelled around from one dockland slum to another.
His decision to take a long voyage on a tramp ship, meant there was no turning back.
He soon fell in to the mad, crazy world of his
shipmates, where incidents that he once considered to be abnormal gradually became normal.
