The Canberras of 1323 Flight sampled debris from Soviet and US atomic tests for scientific intelligence purposes. The aircraft also participated in the joint US-UK MUSIC programme to determine Soviet plutonium production.

"Sniffing and Bottling" also includes the first comprehensive account of RAF participation in the US Operation Castle hydrogen bomb trials of 1954, based on recently-declassified documents and the recollections of participants. Contains many previously-unpublished photographs.
