Soldiers of Sligo is an historical book dedicated to
remembering the lives of County Sligo's most
famous and forgotten men of war irrespective of the
forces with whom they served. Detailed within are
regular soldiers who fought for Irish Independence,
who fought in the British army during both World
Wars (one was a recipient of a Victoria Cross), who
fought in the United States military (six received
Congressional Medals of Honour) and soldiers who
fought for other militaries.
As well as ordinary rank and file soldiers, County
Sligo produced high ranking military figures both
nationally and internationally such as GOC's of the
Irish Republican Army, Field Marshals of
Continental European armies, Brigadier Generals of
the American Union Army and Viceroys and
Liberators of Spanish imperial South America.
