The Cokwe of Northeastern Angola were accustomed to illustrate their stories with standardized illustrations drawn on the sand, called Ôsona.Õ The first volume of ÒSona Geometry from AngolaÓ, entitled ÒMathematics of an African TraditionÓ analyzes and reconstructs the knowledge and expert mathematics inherent in the tradition of the Ôsona.Õ The present second volume, entitled ÒEducational and Mathematical Explorations of African Designs on the Sand,Ó suggests various opportunities to incorporate and exploit the ÔsonaÕ in the context of mathematics education, in particular, in secondary, undergraduate and teacher education. ÒThis beautifully illustrated book represents an important educational resource.
