The Sr_ Jap J_ S_hib is a prayer written by the first Sikh
Gur_, Sr_ Gur_ N_nak Dev J_ and is the initial prayer
from the Sr_ Gur_ Granth S_hib J_. This prayer is uttered
as the initial prayer within the Sikh Nitnem which are
the daily prayers to be read. The Sr_ Jap J_ S_hib within
is a prayer that takes around twenty minutes to recite
but its definitions seem to be endless. A lot of the
commentaries on this text vary in depth and can
sometimes be overbearing for the seeker.
This commentary is very different. It is a commentary
by the great Nirmal_ scholar, Mahant Ganesh_ Singh.
Unlike other Nirmal_s his commentaries are pretty basic
but the essence of the definitions is not lost within the
simplicity. I wanted to provide both the original
commentary in Gurmukh_ along with a translation of
the commentary. This is due to the fact that this
commentary has been out of print for a significant
amount of time and to those seekers of the original
commentary it is available again.
