My motherÕs parents came to Yorkshire from Norwich. I think they viewed all Yorkshire people with suspicion and rather looked down on those who spoke with the northern accent; Ôso much less cultured than the Norfolk drawlÕ. I suppose this meant that we all lived our lives feeling apologetic for our terrible dialect speech.
