George Teeling, an Irish immigrant, arrived in Chicago just after the Illinois and Michigan Canal had been completed. The industrial age for the city was just beginning, and it had a population of not quite twenty thousand residents. The family that George started primarily remained in the Chicago area for at least three generations. Each of these generations contributed to ChicagoÕs growth in some way. A strong theme aligned with the transportation industry runs through this family. Many Teeling descendants also worked in ChicagoÕs lively meat-packing industry. In later generations there was a concentration of Chicago firefighters and police officers. By 2011, Chicago was bursting with about 2.7 million inhabitants.
Though none of these Teeling family members appear in history books, their hard work has not gone unnoticed. This book will tell their story using ChicagoÕs rich history as a backdrop.
