In 1894 John Grupp left Germany at 17 for adventure on the high seas, arriving in America to be welcomed by the Statue of Liberty, and see Niagara Falls before learning to be an American farmer in Iowa. Moving to the Red River Valley of Minnesota, he met Tillie Rosenau and they danced into each other's hearts, beginning a marriage of nearly 60 years. They endured struggles but most enduring of all was their profound love. The author tries to tell their stories with historical context through her eyes and memories.
