I originally wrote this history for Louisiana families with Bernard ancestors who trace their Acadian roots back to Canada. But it could just as easily be a history of other families who came to Louisiana the same way, with names like Broussard, LeBlanc, Landry, Theriot, Boudreaux, Hebert, Cormier, Breaux, Doucet, and many others.
These people knew each other as friends and neighbors, escaped the deportations together, and sailed to Louisiana under the leadership of Joseph "Beausoleil" Broussard where they planted the seeds of a New Acadia in 1765 .
