This year, as part of their investigation into the history of Los Angeles, three of our Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts (LFCSA) classes took on a very special challenge: to publish a book for children by children about the history of our great city!
For two months, 2nd and 3rd grade students researched the history of LA using various sources. They wrote and illustrated 11 chapters that take the reader on a journey through time. From a celebration of the Tongva Native Americans, to the pobladores (the first settlers), the L.A. Riots and more, the book provides windows into the rich, diverse, and complex history of the city we love. Their illustrations were created using mono printing onto fabric. Their prints were collected and printed onto a mural that brought the different events, people, and landmarks to life in the form of an artful timeline.
