S.C.U.B.A. which stands for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus was invented during
World War Two. The soldiers who used the system were more commonly referred to as frogmen. A
frogman not only had to contend with the enemy but also with the environment encapsulating him.
A frogman had to know how to avoid sharks, gauge the water pressure, avoid the enemyÕs
underwater mines and not drown. If he had his air hose cut, or ran out of air, there was a very good
chance that death would shortly follow. Hillman Publishing created the series FROGMAN COMICS to
chronicle the adventures and perils of the soldiers who braved the dark depths to engage the
enemy.
FROGMAN COMICS debuted in January of 1952. Although the series only lasted eleven issues, it was
saturated with action, adventure, intrigue and espionage. Some of the artists who worked on
FROMAN COMICS were Bernie Krigstein, Dan Zolnerowich, John Prentice, Ed Smalle, Jack Abel and
Paul Reinman. These stellar artists created a comic series of unfathomable thrills that will leave the
reader gasping for air.
