David Salters, left permanently disabled following a Ôfriendly fireÕ incident in Vietnam, meets up with Andrew Campbell, volunteer with the Disabled War Veterans Association of America during rehab. He asks Campbell, an ex fighter pilot disabled himself after being shot down during a mission in Korea, now turned journalist and occasional private detective, to investigate the apparent suicide of his mother, Diane Salters, wife of the boorish Senator John T. Salters.
Campbell, working with his network of contacts, starts to uncover secrets that will shake not only DavidÕs family, but also the upper echelons of the United States government. Soon those trying to protect those secrets show they will stop at nothing, including murder, to keep them under wraps.
