This Appendix to Mechanic: The Life and Hard Times of Carlton H. Hursey contains transcriptions and facsimiles of the documents used as source material for that book, most of which were in the Gray Box found among the authorsÕ fatherÕs meager belongings after his death. A full account of the Gray Box and its contents can be found in the Prolog of that volume. The documents include letters between Carlton and Esta Murphy that go back to the early twenties when they were courting, and many other letters from his siblings, parents and children, as well as other forms, certificates, licenses, notes and official correspondence. Also included here are transcriptions of the journals Carlton kept between 1939 and 1947. This Appendix is a treasure trove for those who want to go beyond the narrative into the primary source material for Mechanic.
