This book is the history of the Haines Brothers, a German family of piano makers who moved to the USA; they first settled in Rochester, NY, and then moved to the Bronx, in NYC. The South Bronx had many piano warehouse factory/companies; NYC was the piano industry of the USA and Europe. One of the unique facts about the Haines Bros company was they built all of their own parts for all their pianos; never would they purchase piano assembling parts from other companies.
They were also one of the first piano companies who produced the Ampico player grand piano. Since the grand piano was horizontal, the player was a drawer, where the piano rolls were placed; this drawer slid under the keyboard, such as their Model Three GE Louis XV Grand piano. This was unlike the upright player piano because it produced a much clearer concise sound since the key board of a grand is horizontal and is gravity oriented causing the keys to fall naturally after striking the strings producing a much clearer sound.
