St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove,
Florida celebrates its Centennial in 2010 by telling its
unique and colorful history.
Started by Bishop Gray and Flora McFarlane as a
mission catering to winter visitors, "The Little Chuch
in the Wildwood" has grown with The Grove through,
the good times of the Roaring Twenties, to the
hardships of two world wars, hurricanes, and the Great
Depression. In the sixities and seventies, the Grove
played host to Miami's counterculture as "hippies"
took over Peacock Park, right next door to St.
Stephen's. The last part of the century saw
boom years as the Grove became increasingly more
affluent. Through it all, St. Stephen's has served as
both the spiritual and social heart of the Grove.
Well-known for its Art Show, parishioners are
equally dedicated to missions both to the needy in
Miami as well as in Honduras and elsewhere.
