Alvah Lewis Tippets was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832, just two year after its organization. In one of his few surviving writings, Alvah spoke to his family after their conversion to the new faith and pleaded with them, saying "Let us kneel and thank God for this great blessing, that the heavens are no longer as brass over our head." His statement, referencing Deuteronomy 28:23, certainly demonstrated his understanding that the scriptural cursing of being cut off from God's continuing revelation was beginning to lift.

This biography details the life of a man who is nearly forgotten to the annals of history but who did serve on the periphery of the ChurchÕs inner-circle of leadership, bring others into the Church through his missionary labors, and through his one surviving child he established a vast posterity.
