For over a century, one mill site on the Eno River was owned and operated by five different proprietors. Beginning in the early colonial era of the Piedmont, Quaker Joseph Maddock begins the history of this site. Not only a water powered mill, this site became a famous landmark including the First meeting of the Regulators (1768-1771), the American Revolution (February 1781), as well as an early 18th Century School Academy. Despite these impacts and influences, this mill continued to operated, providing cornmeal, flour, oil and cloth.
