One morning in Fortuna, the sorceress Maia Le Fay and her two young apprentices are mixing a new elixir. The same morning in Tramontane, two students are completing their potion assignment. Kaboom! A portal opens in the middle of their homework. The astonished students have had very few dealings with humans. The humans have never envisioned frogs and platypuses who talk and act like humans. When the portal becomes unstable and closes, both sides resolve to reunite. But, unruly magic books, touchy magnetic fields, unknown catalysts, and a pompous lab rat become formidable obstacles.
Creatures of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds come together to explore the unknown in an atmosphere where magic and science have no defining line, where a self-conscious platypus and a self-assured frog can be friends with a bi-lingual mouse, a human sorceress can become a colleague of a forensics sleuthhound, and where unicorns, dragons, princesses, and fairies all have important talents to contribute.
