Livingston the Lion, prince of the jungle, is a kindhearted beast who prowls the wild in search of friendship. Yet, despite his congenial nature and unwavering determination, the other animals shun the poor creature, avoiding him at all costs. This is because Livingston simply can't stop roaring, the noise an unwelcome disruption to the jungle's otherwise tranquil atmosphere.

During Livingston's quest for acceptance and companionship, he is consistently tormented by Chatfield, a troublesome chimpanzee, who takes great pleasure in teasing Livingston and his uncontrollable outbursts. Until the day Chatfield finds himself in dire peril and there is no one around to save him from a roving band of hungry predators.

Will Chatfield be given a chance to atone for his cruel behavior?

And will Livingston ever win the respect of his royal subjects or find the compassion and understanding he longs for in a friend?

Though not referred to by name, Livingston suffers from Tourette's syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary movements and vocal tics. This condition often makes it difficult for people to socialize normally and comfortably, hence Livingston's predicament. However, the point of the tale is to encourage patience and acceptance for all those who are disabled in one form or another, while teaching how to recognize a person who is mentally or physically challenged as an individual with feelings, and not an object to dismiss, mistreat, or ignore.
