Desert Sand is a quiet little town in the middle of the Chiricahua Desert in New MexicoÔs boot heel. ItÕs a sleepy town where everyone knows one another, their parents, and their kids. Most of the townÕs citizens, though, are seniors and their favorite local hangout is MacDuffÕs Diner. They breakfast there most mornings and exchange gossip and gun magazines, and plan their hikes into the Peloncillo Mountains or motorcycle rides to any place of their choosing. However, all that changed the day Lenore Halstrom was shot dead in MacDuffÕs and fell face first into her bowl of cranberry-pecan oatmeal.
