Harley Sachs drifted through college at Indiana University, graduating in the lower half of his class with an English literature major and a fluke German minor. A reluctant draftee into the US Army at the end of the Korean War, Harley Sachs was sure he would never have to serve because of his asthma. Unfit for combat, he was sent to Queer Company for training and escaped service in Korea because he qualified nominally as a German translator. Thus began his Grand Tour in the 17th century manner.
