First Edition Ð Autumn, 2023 | Hardcover Version
The Orthodox Compendium (OC), for all intents and purposes, is a source of supplementary prayer that is solely intended for personal devotion based upon the structure and order expressed within the Unabbreviated Horologion or Book of the Hours as published by Holy Trinity Monastery: Jordanville, New York. Material from the Unabbreviated Horologion or Book of the Hours is used with the publisherÕs non-exclusive permission.
The OC contains all of the typical Hours for every day of the week beginning with Vespers, Little Compline, Midnight Offices, Matins, and the Minor Hours along with their Mesorion; a.k.a., the Inter-Hour. Additionally, there are provisional Orders for the Typica, Trapeza, and Festive Propers for the 12 Feasts of the Church, including a unique ordering for the Paschal Hours of Bright Week.
The ordering of psalms is observed on a weekly basis for all Hours with the exception of Matins having a weekly observance for Sunday and Saturday along with a unique set of 40 kathismata for the weekdays, each one consisting of three psalms, that can be observed on a bi-monthly, monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly basis, depending on one's discipline. There is also the possibility of observing the psalter twice a week during Great Lent as is customary in Orthodox monasteries throughout the world. The OC provides troparia and kontakia for every day of the week and all their Hours, including the troparia, theotokia, and kontakia in the eight tones for Sunday.
The OC is neither intended for public celebration, nor can it replace the official Unabbreviated Horologion or Book of the Hours as customarily observed by the Orthodox Church in her public and corporate prayer life. This work is published with the knowledge and cooperation of clerical authority.
Proceeds earned from the publication of this work will go towards the New Parish Hall Building Fund of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church: Beltsville, Maryland.
