One night, by chance, most of the novels characters converge in the Nook bar in the Bronx. Here an argument breaks out between Dessy Whelan, an ex IRA man who works as a brickie, and Frank Molone, an NYPD cop. They are in love with the same girl, who happens to work behind the bar in the Nook!
Their argument leads to tragedy, and the events of that night later bring all the characters together in the most unexpected of ways...
