The railroads have private rights-of-way to every major city in the United States. They are sitting on a gold mine and are wasting it. The railroads could be dominating the intercity transportation of goods and people if they made just three modifications to their networks. The New Rail System (NRS) is conceptually a simple modification to existing rail networks, requiring no invention that has the potential to capitalize on the tremendous transportation network advantage the railroads have. "The Race To Deliver The Goods" defines the NRS Concept. A companion book, "New Rail System Implementation Plan for BNSF" describes the cost-benefit available to one of the nation's Class 1 railroads if they adopted the NRS Concept. This is a "must read" for transportation planners, both public and private.
