They slowly walked along the creek bed. The mud and cold water oozing between their toes.... squish, squash, squish. Somewhere, nearby, a noisy blue jay squawked out his raucous chatter; here and there frogs were slipping silently into the coolness of their watery hideaway.
Adam Clark and his ten-year-old sister Kamy were enjoying the last day of summer vacation. Even though she was two years younger than he, they were close. They had spent a lot of time that summer having fun together or, occasionally, getting into mischief.
"Can you believe it Adam?"
"Huh...believe what?"
"That summer is really over and school starts back tomorrow?"
"Uh-huh." Adam said absent mindedly, for just then something caught his attention and he began running toward the old well on Mrs. MacGyvers's forty-acre farm.
"Come on Kamy! Hurry up before he gets away!!"
"Who?" Kamy asked?
"Didn't you see him?"
"No, or I wouldn't have asked ÔwhoÕ, she responded sarcastically.
"Who was it?"
"A leprechaun!!"
