The Joseph Skipper migrated from North Carolina to Conway County, Arkansas, in the early 1850s. In spite of difficulties resulting from Joseph's service in the Union Army during the Civil War, they rebuilt and developed a thriving family farm in the area around Round Mountain near the community of Lanty.
