This book describes and analyses changes in higher education (for teaching, student assessment, research, and administration of higher eduction institutions) in the last generation, with reference to Britain, New Zealand and many other countries. While sharply critical of many of these changes, it offers recommendations of how higher education can be rebuilt to retain some of the post-Enlightenment concept of universities, but adapted to be suitable for today's world.
