The Sun Rises East is the follow up to The Stars Are The Same and continues the memoir-style reflections of Achila Priscilla "Mary" Hazard. Although a work of fiction, many of the subtle details, like Mary's penchant for collection as a way of storing memories, are pieces of the author's own life experiences.
Travel back with Mary to 1938 as she recalls settling into her new home with her father and grandfather, after three years on the road. She meets Sean Michael Lang, the son of Irish immigrants, and Lincoln Strong, the son of a migrant worker, and continues to discover what it means to grow up.
