This monograph comprises six papers written by Trevor Underwood between 2016 and 2019. The first paper begins by reviewing the evidence from drilling cores at five locations spanning the North Atlantic that a die-off 6,000 years ago of Acropora palmata at the coral reef off the Hillsboro Inlet in Broward County, Florida, was due to cooler water temperatures. The second paper examines estimates of changes in global surface temperature between 1880 and 2010. Papers three and four review the physics underlying the Greenhouse Effect and the methodology on which current estimates of the impact of an increase in greenhouse gases on global warming are based. The fifth paper draws on this analysis, using physics-based relationships to calculate the change in surface temperature, instead of relying on climate model simulations. It shows climate sensitivity to be one third of that estimated by the IPCC. The final paper considers the evidence for an alternative source of global warming, an increase in solar irradiance.
