Based upon the life of Herb Sohns, as told by his daughter Sally who misses him every day.
Herbert G. Sohns was born in Scranton PA on November 28, 1920. His father died when he was four years old. Herb was a Pennsylvania State Policeman retiring as a detective, after which he became an adult probation officer in Lackawanna County.
During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps. As a Staff Sergeant and waist gunner in B17's bombers he was decorated with a Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and was also a member of the Gold Fish Club.
Herb met his wife, Virginia, while serving as a gunnery instructor at Dyersburg Army Air Base in Tennessee. The couple had five children.
He passed away on March 31, 1992 and is buried in Highland South Cemetery in Seymour TN.
