When JoÕnaas receives an invitation to his fatherÕs centennial birthday celebration on his homeworld of Volara, he and his human shipmate Jared from the exploratory vessel Odyssey embark on what should be a peaceful trip home. After escaping the Erazi militants, the crew takes shore leave on the planet Volara. For science officer Jared, the break becomes a series of encounters with alien customs, including JoÕnaasÕs pranks, his sister ParÕvatiÕs romantic advances, and a jealous fiancŽ challenging him to an aerial race. Meanwhile, the Odyssey faces a crisis while trapped in a nebula that ages the crew and drains the shipÕs power.
