Twenty-two year old outcast Molly Wagner is thrust back into small town life after her mother dies. After being goaded into entering the same bread-baking contest that made her mother a minor celebrity, Molly finds that the entire town is waiting for her to embarrass herself.
MollyÕs biggest detractor is her father, Jim. He is convinced that MollyÕs old behavior (drinking, drugs, violence) will return and he pushes her away. Jim is haunted by his own failure: while his wife enjoyed her small-town fame as an award-winning baker, heÕd allowed the family farm to slip away parcel by parcel. Like his daughter, heÕs sure the town sees him as an incompetent joke, and he wants nothing more than to be left alone.
As the pressure of the contest threatens MollyÕs fragile psyche and Jim falls further into despair, both find that, as much as they dislike each other, they may hold the key to each otherÕs redemption.
