This is the first volume in a series of five collections of choral repertoire. The first three volumes (Primus, for lower primary children, Medius, for upper primary children, and Felix, for mixed high school students) aim to provide short, achieveable choral pieces which bring together enjoyable verbal and melodic content relevant to the singersÕ ages, covering a wide range of topics, with graded musical / notation concepts. The other two volumes (Secundus, for equal voices, and Tertius, for mixed voices) offer experienced choirs more challenging repertoire.
Primus contains short, simple songs with ostinati, drones, call and response, partner songs, rounds, and songs in two and three parts, some with instruments. The major keys encountered are C, G, F and D; the minor keys are A, E, D, B. This repertoire should suit lower - middle primary classes (or children aged 8-10), as well as beginning childrenÕs choirs. Some pieces would also be useful for beginner adults.
