TurtleFeather, a newly hatched turtle-like creature that resembles a box turtle, is found by nine-year-old Danny. Danny soon discovers that his "Boxy" has special qualities, most importantly: wings! As he grows much bigger, TurtleFeather embarks on a quest for "his kind" - alas, not to be found. But he does find friendship with night flying migrating birds, sea turtles and, most importantly, turtle island, a mythical conscious land form that has sunk deep in the ocean. TurtleFeather, courageous and determined, dives down to learn from and help the island rise above the waves again. With his aerial, aquatic and terrestrial abilities - and his gift of photosynthesis, TurtleFeather helps repopulate the island with animals on the brink of extinction. But this refuge threatens humans with a massive tsunami if they dare to invade. Nevertheless, kindness and gentleness prevail in this exciting, adventuresome fable.
