This publication collects ideas and designing proposals worked out from two-year experience of the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design (ILA&UD) founded by Giancarlo De Carlo, and held again in Urbino in 2012-2013.
The first part deals with the territory and landscape around Urbino, looking at the small towns spread along the Metauro and Foglia rivers. The second focuses on Piazza del Mercatale, trying to explore possible solutions for its re-organization, including the Ducal Palace, the hill of Vigne and historic buildings of the DATA and the Ramp by F. Di Giorgio Martini, conceived as an unique system of access to the city.
The publication contains also assays presented during the ILAUD seminar in Urbino about the new territorial challenges which have to be addressed by different cities in the world for the future.
