This is the story of a young Suffolk carpenter who emigrated to Australia in 1886. He worked at various settlements and cattle stations in the areas around Sydney and Melbourne for a few years, then moved on to New Zealand. In 1898 he got married in the town of Marton, North Island, and made his living by farming and building houses and barns. In 1910, by now 45 years of age with a wife and four sons, he migrated again, this time to Canada where the Canadian Pacific Railroad offered opportunities to obtain cheap farm land as the railway progressed across the continent. He set up farming near the town of Cheadle in Alberta, his family grew and prospered and there are numerous descendants of Walter Keer still living in the area today. This book is a transcript of a series of letters which he wrote during the 1930s to his son and grandson telling them of his adventures and all that he knew about the Keer family back in England.
